Historical Research

Ever wonder about that distant relative who emigrated to Cedar Falls from Denmark? Curious about a historic building on Main Street? Want to learn more about the underground music scene of the 1980s?

With city directories, probate records, historic photographs, postcards, manuscripts, voice recordings, videos, and family papers, the Cedar Falls Historical Society’s Archives and Library preserves and provides access to a wealth of Cedar Falls history.

Access to the archives is by appointment only, or we can conduct research for you. Contact us via e-mail or at 319-266-5149 to make an appointment, request research, or learn about using photographs from our collection. Fees may apply.

The Sturgis Falls Celebration is the high point of the summer for many families. The program records the events and people who have participated in this annual event and preserves the history of our celebration. With the permission of Sturgis Falls, Inc. the Cedar Falls Historical Society is providing PDFs of past programs for research and reminiscences.
